Ocean City, NJ

I love vacations and travel. I think I need vacations or travel on my calendar to get me through the months when I am not going on a trip or vacation. I think I got this desire to travel because every summer my family would head down to Morristown, TN to spend weeks on my grandmother’s farm. I loved it. I loved the car rides, the visiting of relatives, and my grandmothers cooking.

As I became a teenager, the beach became an appealing place to vacation. Now, one aspect of growing up in Pittsburgh is that there is not a beach near by. In Pittsburgh, we had wave pools. Large pools with cement bottoms that made waves. It was very hi-tech stuff in the 80’s. If you went to the beach, you would drive to North Carolina. Therefore, North Carolina was my first introduction of the beach, when my sister let me tag along on one of her vacations. I liked it so much; my senior trip was to Myrtle Beach, SC.

When I married Dena, who grew up in Lancaster, I was introduced to Ocean City, NJ. It was her family’s vacation spot every year. Once we were married, I got to tag along. I now can say that OC is my favorite vacation spot. Every year we share a house with Dena’s parents and have the time of our life. I get to read, go for bike rides, eat Brown’s doughnuts, Mallon’s sticky buns, and hang out at the beach. I am not a big ‘sun’ person, but I love playing in the waves and sitting under our umbrella. Last week, we had our annual beach vacation (another plus, no internet connection, thus the reason for no posts on this blog). It again was a blast. Here are some pictures:
